What is a fair society?
Since I was little, I used the word “fair” often. Whether at school or at home, I was bothered by all the things around me that seemed unfair. For example, my mom would force me to eat vegetable but just let it slide when my dad doesn’t eat any. “That’s not fair!” was probably the phrase I used the most during that time.
But as I got older, I started thinking if society is really fair at all. What does “being fair” even mean?
In this world, there are families that are rich and never have to work for the rest of their lives. On the other hand, there are people born in poverty who never even get proper education. When I see this, I can’t help but think that society was unfair from its very beginning. But I don’t think that means we should just accept and move on.
So what is a fair society? Is it a place where everyone lives in the same standards and conditions no matter what? Ironically, that seems unfair as well. I asked ChatGPT about this, and below is its response.
⸻
What Is a Fair Society?
A fair society gives everyone equal rights, opportunities, and respect—no matter who they are.
⸻
How Can We Make It?
• Equal education for all
• Fair wages and support for the poor
• Laws that protect everyone
• Freedom of speech and choice
• No discrimination
• Kindness and respect in our communities
⸻
What stood out the most was the word “equal”. Things like wages could be made equal through policies, but what about education? Is it possible to give everyone the same educational opportunities? With technology advancing so rapidly, can everyone have a fair chance with catching up with these changers? Or would innovations expand access to equal education?
How fair is our society?
I’m still trying to figure it out.
