This category is for my physics journey. I started getting into physics sometime last winter. I’ve always enjoyed math and programming, and one day I told my mom I wanted to try something more challenging than what I was doing in school. She found me a college student tutor – he’s about four years older than me, and we began meeting once a week after school. We worked through interesting math problems and some programming, and then one day, he asked, “Want to try physics?” I didn’t really know much about the subject, but I said “sure”, and I was instantly hooked.
After that, I started seeing physics everywhere; I began noticing the physics principles behind everyday events. I also recently took the AP Physics C Mechanics exam and earned a 5, and it was such a great experience. I’m planning to study E&M next year as well.
While diving deeper into mechanics and working on my project Volunteers Korea, I’ve also been thinking about how technical skills – especially in things like programming or physics – can be used in a way that’s fairer for everyone. “Fairness” is a large idea, and maybe I don’t fully understand it yet, but I do believe we should be moving toward a more just world. And I think big ideas, like the laws of physics, should eventually be connected to how we live.
I want to continue learning, as well as start applying what I studied with the real world. I already have some ideas in mind, and feeling excited about them – even if I have a lot more to realize them.
I think it’ll be nice to keep track of my physics projects from the beginning and look back on them someday.
