Scope of Volunteers and Recipients (February 6, 2026)

VolKo’s launch is getting closer, but my thoughts are still not perfectly organized. The app itself is a simple idea, but there are so many decisions I couldn’t decide on.

The first question was about how much time I could actually commit.

When I first began the project, I wanted to include as many people, volunteers or recipients, as possible. But now that I’m a freshman (and soon a sophomore), I think I need to face the reality that I won’t have that much time. My schedule is packed with things I need and want to do, so my time is limited.

Originally, I wanted to allow everyone to participate, but that is, realistically, difficult. So I’m thinking about returning to the original idea of the app, limiting the volunteer target to foreigners living in Korea. To my knowledge, there are no volunteer organizations designed specifically for foreigners in Korea. However, I am aware that there could be high schoolers who might want to volunteer regularly.

Secondly, I need to think about how broad the recipient group should be.

I’m certain that group homes need volunteers, and since VolKo started as an education volunteer program, I predict that there will be many places that would want English/foreign language tutors. I need to think about whether I will expand the range of recipients or keep them focused.

Everyone advised that I should start within the limits of what I can handle, and I agree that they’re probably right. I have physics competitions, AIME, schoolwork, and follow-up research projects this year, so sorting out my schedule will be a challenge.
